Learning to leave space

A frame does not need to be full to feel complete. Start with the smallest detail that holds your attention, then notice what surrounds it. Empty space can tell you as much about a place as its landmarks.


Before pressing the shutter, move your eye around the edges. Remove what competes with the subject. Sometimes the best composition is one step back, with a little more room for the photograph to breathe.
